Emotion-Focused (EFT)

Emotions as information — and a doorway to change.

EFT treats emotion as a source of meaning and a catalyst for change. It helps you access, stay with, and make sense of feelings you may have learned to avoid, transforming stuck emotional patterns and — in couples work — the cycles that keep partners apart. It's grounded in attachment science.

Not sure whether this approach is right for you? We'll talk it through with you, explain your options, and help you find the therapist who fits.

What a session looks like

Sessions slow down at exactly the points most conversations speed up. When a feeling arrives, your therapist will help you stay with it rather than move past it to analysis — asking what it is like right now, where you notice it, what it wants.

In couples work the shape is different: much of the session is spent mapping the cycle you get caught in — the moves and counter-moves — until both of you can see it happening rather than only feel it. The cycle becomes the problem, rather than each other.

Who it tends to help

EFT helps people at both ends of the emotional range: those who feel flooded and those who feel nothing much at all. Numbness is treated as a strategy rather than an absence, which is often a relief to hear.

For couples, it suits the pattern where the same argument recurs in different clothing, and where both people feel unheard in exactly the way the other does.

How it fits alongside other work

EFT is grounded in attachment science, which makes it a natural companion to relational and trauma-focused work rather than an alternative to it.

Our clinicians make enough safety for feelings to be felt and worked with rather than bypassed.

Our approach

We create enough safety for feelings to be felt and worked with, not bypassed. Our EFT-informed clinicians help you move from being overwhelmed by emotion, or cut off from it, toward using it as a compass.

Why connect with us

If you feel numb, flooded, or caught in the same painful loops, EFT can help you meet your emotions differently. Our clinicians make enough safety for feelings to be felt and worked with rather than bypassed.

Before you book

The practical part.

What does it cost?
Sessions start at $160 for 60 minutes, and each therapist's own rate is on their card above. The first 15-minute consultation is free.
Is it covered by insurance?
Not by OHIP — the practice is private. Many workplace benefit plans do cover some or all of the cost of seeing a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist, though coverage varies, so it is worth a quick check with your insurer. We provide receipts for reimbursement. More on fees and insurance.
What happens in the free consultation?
Fifteen minutes, by phone or video, with no obligation. You can ask questions, say as much or as little as you want about what you are carrying, and get a feel for whether this is someone you could talk to. If it is not the right fit, we will say so and help you find one.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no set number. Many people meet weekly at the start, because that is what builds trust and momentum, and settle into a slower rhythm later. We revisit how it is going together, and you decide how long it goes on.
How do I choose between the therapists?
Start with the reasons listed under each name above — they say what each person has trained in and who they tend to work with. If that does not settle it, book the free consultation with whoever you are drawn to, or ask us and we will suggest someone.

No cost, no obligation, and no need to know what to say yet.
