Therapy & approach

Solution-Focused

Building on what already works, toward the change you want.

Solution-Focused therapy is a brief, forward-looking approach that concentrates on your goals and strengths rather than an exhaustive analysis of problems. Through carefully crafted questions, it surfaces exceptions — the times things already go better — and builds practical, achievable steps toward the future you want.

Not sure whether this approach is right for you? We'll talk it through with you, explain your options, and help you find the therapist who fits.

What a session looks like

Expect questions rather than analysis — and unusual ones. What would be different if this were resolved. When was it slightly better recently, and what was going on then. If you had to rate today out of ten, what would move it half a point.

The aim is to find what already works somewhere in your life and do more of it. Sessions are short-course by design; many people need only a handful.

Who it tends to help

This suits people who arrive with something specific and want momentum: a decision, a transition, a habit, a situation at work.

It is not the right tool for everything, and we will say so. Where something older is driving the problem, treating only the surface tends to buy weeks rather than years.

How it fits alongside other work

Solution-focused conversations often open a course of therapy that later goes deeper, or punctuate longer work when a concrete problem needs attention now.

We hold it within trauma-informed care, so momentum never comes at the cost of what is underneath.

Our approach

We use solution-focused conversations when you want momentum and clarity, holding them within our trauma-informed care so quick wins never come at the cost of what's underneath.

Why connect with us

If you're looking for focused, practical support around a specific change, this approach can help you get moving. We hold it within trauma-informed care, so momentum never comes at the cost of what is underneath.

Before you book

The practical part.

What does it cost?
Sessions start at $160 for 60 minutes, and each therapist's own rate is on their card above. The first 15-minute consultation is free.
Is it covered by insurance?
Not by OHIP — the practice is private. Many workplace benefit plans do cover some or all of the cost of seeing a Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist, though coverage varies, so it is worth a quick check with your insurer. We provide receipts for reimbursement. More on fees and insurance.
What happens in the free consultation?
Fifteen minutes, by phone or video, with no obligation. You can ask questions, say as much or as little as you want about what you are carrying, and get a feel for whether this is someone you could talk to. If it is not the right fit, we will say so and help you find one.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no set number. Many people meet weekly at the start, because that is what builds trust and momentum, and settle into a slower rhythm later. We revisit how it is going together, and you decide how long it goes on.
How do I choose between the therapists?
Start with the reasons listed under each name above — they say what each person has trained in and who they tend to work with. If that does not settle it, book the free consultation with whoever you are drawn to, or ask us and we will suggest someone.

No cost, no obligation, and no need to know what to say yet.
